Canovee under 21s have been drawn away to cill na martra on febuary 9th,away to inniscarra on febuary 16th, and at home to ballincollig on febuary 24th
.On december 14th canovee under age medal presention for the successfull under 13 and 14 age groups was held in the lee valley golf club.under age chairman gerry moynhian wellcomed the large group of parents ,players and supporters present and thanked everyone for their great effort through out the year.cork senior star ciaran sheehan made the medal presentions after giving a lovely speech.a disco rounded off the night.
on december the 30th canovee gaa are holding a jack the joker night in the sportmans bar aherla where a top prize of 1,000 euro will be given out.they will be neumerous spot prizes also.the lotto draw will be also be held on the night .the club would like to thank everybody who supported the lotto through out the year and wish everybody a happy and peacefull christmas.

Canovee adult section a.g.m was held on december 9th.secretary gerard ahern gave a very detailed account of all aspects of the club.treasurer john barry murphy showed the clubs accounts to be in a health state. thanks in the main to the great work of the lotto committee under the chairmanship of timmy lyons.club legend john o sullivan in his last address as chairman thanked all members for their hard work through out the year.ted dunne stepped down as mid cork board delgate after 19 consecutive years.in coming chairman pat o riordan in his maiden speech out lined his wish that the club will continue the up grade of its facilities noting that in the last eight years a top class second pitch, a new training area ,and extra parking have all been developed.he also hoped that canovee can be in contention for honours in all grades next year ,pat also said that with every body giving a small hand alot can be achieved.

On November 4th canovee played sliabh rua in the under 14 B league final in ballinaspittle. In this game sliabh rua proved much too strong for canovee running out comfortable winners by 6.07 to 1.04eoin cullen scored the canovee goal.a big thank you to the players,parents and selectors,don caroll,john kingston,niall lucey,and seamus murphy who all made a great effort this year.this game brought a end to the playing season .canovee under age played over 60 competive games in the new eastern division with all teams been competive.although the season has gone very well, the big big bone of contention this year has been the amount of traveling involved .hopefully this will be looked at for next year

On October 29th canovee played aghinagh in the under 13 B league semi final in carrigadrohid. both teams played some top class football and showed great sportmanship .the match took place in perfect conditions with the carrigadrohid pitch been in top class condition..canovee got off to a good start with two early goals from john mc mahon.canovee led at half time by 2.05 to 1.05 with daragh cronin,eoin cullen,denis murphy and david o keffee all getting on the score sheet.the second half proved to be a very even affair with both teams having periods of dominance.two second half goals by eoin cullen and daragh cronin kept canovee ahead .despite a late aghinagh onslaught canovee managed to hold out for a narrow win.after the match the trophy was presented to delighted canovee captain cathal moynhian.final score canovee 4.07 v aghinagh 2.11.team

On Saturday afternoon last, October 20th, in Whitechurch GAA Grounds the Canovee under 11 squad took to the field along with Bride Rovers to contest the Rebel Og East League Final. Conditions on this sunny afternoon were almost perfect except for a slight cross wind. Canovee chose to play against the wind in the first half and after an evenly matched and tough first half Canovee led by 1-4 to 3 points. Canovee started the second half strongly by adding 2 goals which gave them a good lead but Bride Rovers made a brave comeback to level the match at 3-5 each with about 5 minutes to go.Canovee dug deep and scored another goal and a couple of points and along with some great saves in the backline in the dying minutes of the game won out 4-7 to 3-5. A great victory for all the lads.

On october 20th canovee played whitechurch in the under 14 B league semi final in whitechurch .canovee played with the strong wind in the first half and were in a strong position at half time.canovee led by 3.07 to 1.01 with goals coming from mark walsh,daniel o driscoll and daragh cronin.whitechurch with wind advantage in the second half slowly whittled down the canovee lead .with time running out whitechurch were ahead by 3.10 to 3.08 with canovee finding it hard to get the ball up the field.canovee needed a goal to stay in contention and inspirational mid fielder jack murphy provided it ,with a superb long range effort.canovee repelled a whitechurch attack from the kick out with cormac o driscoll and neil kirk outstanding in defence . mark walsh sealed a canovee victory with a well worked late goal.canovee now play sliabh rua in the final.team

On october the 7th canovee gaa club hosted the third annual neilly twomey tournament in pleasant conditions.eight teams took part in this under 10 competion,kilmurry,millstreet,dromtariffe,clondrohid,naomh abhan,aghinagh and two teams from canovee.a great mornings sport was had in neillys honour who gave a life time of service to the canovee club.jane twomey had the honour of presenting the cup to the canovee under 10 team,milstreet won the sheild,kilmurry won the plate and canovee under 9s won the throphy.a big thank you to the ladies who provided refreshments and to every one who helped make the blitz such a success

On octuber 4th canovee played kilnamartra under lights in clloughduv.kilnamartra had the better of the first half and led at half time by 2.04 to 0.03.canovee rallied in the second half and despite a second half penalty miss had narrowed the gap through goals from eamonn lyons and a mark verling penalty,how ever kilnamartra responded with a couple of points and at the final whitsle were ahead by 2.10 to 2.05.canovee finished in fourth position in the league with 14 points out of 22.this was a much improved position on last year .team david wiseman,daniel o sullivan,paul o sulliovan,georid lucey,john o brien,timmy lyons,brian ahern,eamonn lyons,ger ahern,tadgh mc carthy,pat dunlea,darragh ring,mark verling,con dunne,sean o connor.

Subs william ahern,james moynhian on octuber 5th canovee played aghinagh in the under 15B football league semi final in rusheen.this game turned out to be a top class game and ended in near darkness.the sides were level at half time 1.05 to 2.02 with brian verling scoring the goal and kieran moynhian,mark healy and denis murphy scoring points.the second half turned out to be fierce exciting with conor hughes scoring .some neat points to keep canovee in contention right to the end.in the fading light canovee were narrowly wide with two late frees and at the final whitsle aghinagh were ahead by 2.08 to 1.10.well done to timmy lyons,michael o mahony,charlie carroll and don carroll who prepared this team this year.team

On september 21st canovee played eire og in the mid cork junior B football championship semi final in annahalla.the first half was very even and at half time eire og led by 0.06 to 0.04.how ever a well drilled eire og team got well on top in the second half and at the final whitsle were ahead by 1.17 to 1.07 .michael quinlan scored the canovee goal.team

on september 18th canovee played ballygarvan under lights in the under 15 B football championship.canovee found the physcially stronger ballygarvan team hard to deal with in this game and were behind at half time by 2.07 to 1.04 with conor hughes scoreing the canovee goal.a few quick goals eary in the second half put ballygarvan in control.canovee tried very hard till the end and were unlucky not to find the net on a few ocasions.final score canovee 1.08 v ballygarvan 6.08.
how ever canovee responded to the championship defeat in positive fashion when they played ibane gaels at home in the under 15 B league.canovee led at half time by 2.08 to 2.04 with conor hughes and brian verling getting the goals.canovee maintained their lead in the second half helped by further goals by gavin hickey and mark healy and at the final whitsle were ahead by 5.11 to 2.12.the team again ballygarvan was

Canovee were invited for the first time to the Dee O'Leary Under 11 Football Tournament at Na Piarsaigh Club in Cork where they were outstanding winners on the day.

Their first match was against Austin Stacks from Tralee, who were the reigning champions, which proved to be a well fought game from both sides with Canovee claiming the victory with great 2nd half play from the boys on a scoreline of 4-7 to 4-1. Their opponents up next were the host club Na Piarsaigh whom they beat well with some great individual scores 4-8 to 1-1. After a hot lunch provided by the hosts the final was played in the beautiful sunshine against a competitive Kilshannig side where Canovee proved just too strong for them with outstanding performances all over the field. Canovee were the victors with an impressive tally of 5-6 to 2-3. A big thank you to all parents and coaches for their support. A fantastic day out for everyone with another cup for the Canovee Underage Squad.Well done lads!!

Canovee under 10 team retained the Jim Corridan memorial blitz recently at Listowel Co.Kerry .The team ,selectors and families travelled by coach and got a great welcome by the Listowel Emmets Club .The team played 3 matches in the group stages and recorded victories against Listowel under 10 boys team and under 10 girls team.In their final group match they faced Ballyduff who were also unbeaten in the group so a place in the A final was at stake.In a thrilling match Canovee edged ahead winning on a scoreline of 5-12 to 6-3.The team faced Legion of Killarney in the A Final a repeat of last years final.Canovee playing against the wind in the first half led at half time 1-5 to 1-1.A powerful second half performance saw Canovee winning on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-2 admist tremendous scenes of jubilation .The shield was presented to joint winning captains Dylan Delaney and Jason Riordan .
The team also participated in the Brian Cronin Memorial Cup recently at Dromtariffe .Canovee recorded comfortable victories against Aghinagh and Kilmurry and faced Tomas Russells in their final group match who were also unbeaten for a place in the final.This was a great game of football played by two excellent sides and the teams were level at half time on a scoreline of 0-2 each.Canovee were the better team in the second half and went on to secure a place in the final where they faced Kanturk in a repeat of last years final .On this occassion Canovee didn't play to their potential and a much stronger Kanturk side ran out deserving winners.The team is continuing to train Sunday mornings and are looking forward to the Neily Twomey blitz in October.

On September 8th canovee played ilen rovers in the under 14 B county semi final in ahiohill.canovee were under pressure from the start and a physically stronger ilen team were comfortable winners at the final whitsle.final score ilen rovers 6.03 to canovees 0.03.though beaten canovee still have the semi final of the league to look forward to against bride rovers.
on september the 9th canovee minors played eire og in the minor A football league in ovens.this game turned out to be very competitive with both teams playing some top class football.canovee started well and helped by a eary goal by james moynhian.eire og then scored two quick goals .but canovee responded with points by liam murphy,conor hughes,and a well taken goal by james verling.at the half time whitsle eire led by 2.06 to 2.04.a eary goal in the second half stretched the eire og lead.this seemed to spur canovee into action with a second goal by james moynhian and a cracking effort from liam murphy.with time running out the sides were level but a late scoring spurt sealed canovees victory.a lovely late point by james verling,and a solo goal by james moynhian brought the scoring to a end.final score canovee 5.09 to eire og 3.11.team

On september 2nd canovee played ballydesmond in the intermediete football championship in mourne abbey.canovee made a steady start and after fifteen minutes the sideswere level with denis o sullivan and sean o connor scoring points.from their to half time ballydesmond took control of the middle third and the canovee defence came under pressure.a couple of quick points and a well worked goal helped ballydesmond to lead at half time by 1.10 to 0.06.the second half proved to be a even affair,canovee tryed hard to narrow the gap .helped by surging runs from mark verling but ballydesmond kept the score board ticking over and at the final whitsle were ahead by 1.17 to 0.13.this was a disapointing end to canovees championship campaign.both the players and selectors put in a great effort since january but on the day were unable to play to their potential but are still in contention for league honours.one of the unusual features of this years campaign was that long serving forward pat dunlea was joint player coach,and long serving centre back tommy murphy played in goal.both pat and tommy made their championship debuts against clondrohid in 1994 and are still going strong 18 years later.team

On august 27th canovee played western gaels in the minor a football championship.canovee were slow to settle and were under pressure all through the first half.at half time western gaels led by 2.07 to 1.04 with michael dunne scoring the canovee goal.in the second half western gaels stretched their lead and at the three quarter stage western gaels led by 3.10 to 1.05.how ever two goals by ciran canty, and tadgh o riordan and points by conor hughes and kieran moynhian brought canovee level,entering injury time western gaels were a point up and a point with the last kick sealed a two point victory for western gaels.both teams played in a positive fashion .this canovee minor team showed great commitment through out the year and with most of the team under age again next year will be again competive.final score canovee 3.12 v western gaels 3.14.

On august 8th canovee played naomh abhan in the mid cork junior B football championship quarter final.canovee got off to a good start with goals in the first half by gerry shanahan and a cracking effort from william ahern.canovee led at half time by 2.04to 0.06.the second half proved to be a even affair and a second goal by gerry shanahan seemed to put canovee in the driving seat.how ever a late scoring burst which yielded 1 goal and 3 points drew naomh abhan level.deep into injury time experienced campaigner gerry shanahan scored a wonderfull point to seal victory for canovee by the narrowest of margins.final score canovee 3.07 naomh abhan 1.12.canovee are due to meet eire og in the semi final.team

On august 3rd Canovee played Ballinhassig in the second round of the Minor A football championship in Carrigadrohid.in this game Canovee gave a very compentent performance mixing up the long and the short game to good effect.Canovee led at half time by 8 points to 4 with scores coming from Aidan Moynhian, Cathal O'Carroll, James Moynhian, and Aidan Murphy.in the second half Canovee upped the pace and driven on from the central positions by Darren Twomey, Michael Dunne, and Ciran Canty scored a few quick points.Kiran Moynhian also got in on the scoring in the second half.at the final whitsle Canovee were comfortable winners by 0.17 to Ballinhassig 0.05.team

Under 15 inter county tournament
conor hughes from aherla played for cork in the recent humphery kelleher tournament in dullallow for inter county teams from munster.two teams from cork took part.conor played left half forward for one team.this team beat limrick but lost narrowly to tipperary in the semi final who went on to win the competion.

UNDER 10

Canovee under 10 team are after a busy year so far,the team started training in March and also have played a number challenge matches throughout the year.In March we played Clondrohid in Clondrohid.In April the team played Millstreet and Ballinora and in May the team travelled west to play Clonakility,Sam Maguires and Carbery Rangers.On the June bank holiday Monday Canovee played Glanmire (Community Games Team) in Glanmire and were victorious.The majority of the challenge matches were 2 x 11 a side games to ensure maximum playing time for all our players.
On Saturday 9th of June the team travelled as defending champions to Dromtarriffe to play in the Brian Cronin Memorial Cup where 16 teams from Avondhu,Imokelly,Muskerry, Duhallow and East Kerry compete over two Saturdays in June. Our lads had comfortable victories against Dromtarriffe and Clondrohid and faced Kanturk in their final group match (a repeat of last years final) and held on a scoreline of 3-3 to 2-3 in a thrilling match.The 2nd leg of the blitz which was fixed for 16th June had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions and is now rescheduled for the end of August.Canovee have played two further challenge games since against Donoughmore and Eire Og.The team will also be heading to Listowel in September as defending champions to play in the annual Jim Corridan shield and also will be hosting the Neilly Twomey Memorial tournment .

On july 19th canovee played castlelyons in the first round of the minor A football championship in castlelyons.canovee were under pressure from the throw in and a early goal put castlelyons ahead.a goal by aidan moynhian brought canovee back into the game and at half time castlelyons led by 1.05 to 1.01.with wind advatage the canovee forwards saw more of the ball and slowly whittled down the lead.a second goal by aidan moynhian brought canovee level.the lead changed hands on a number of occasions and it took two late points by tadgh o riordan and james moynhian to seal a narrow victory for canovee.in this game canovee found it hard to win poession and took some clever points to stay in contention in the second half.young goalkepper mark healy also made some outstanding saves .team

on july 10th canovee played whitechurch in the under 14 b east final in donaghmore.canovee got off to a dream start and led at half time by 2.09 to 0.05 with daniel akinrinbola getting the two canovee goals.in the second half canovee maintained their lead and at the final whitsle were ahead by 2.12 to 0.09.after the game canovee captain mark walsh was presented with the cup by east board chairman donie cahill.canovee are now through to the county semi final which is due to be played in august.

on july 15th canovee played donaghmore in the junior football championship in coachford..this game turned out to be very tough.canovee led at half time by 0.06 to 0.01 with mark verling being the main point scorer.two goals in the second half by james moynhian and sean o connell,eased canovee to a comformatable victory by 2.09 to 0.06.team

on june the 5th canovee played aghinagh in the semi final of the under 14 B football chapionship in rusheen.despite the recent heavy rain the rusheen pitch was in great condiion.canovee started very well and after 15 minutes they were ahead by six points to one,through long range points by gavin hickey,dara cronin,and neil kirk.from there to half time aghinagh got well on top and helped by two quick goals they led at half time by 2.04 to 0.06.canovee were a changed team in the second half.earrly points by mark walsh was followed by a goal.canovee kept the score board ticking over and a late goal by mark walsh booked canovees place in the final against whitechurch.final score canovee 2.13 v aghinagh 2.06

on july 1st canovee played kanturk in the intermediete football league division 4 in kanturk.in this game canovee struggled to find their best form but still led at half time by 1.05 to 0.05 with sean o connor scoring the canovee goal.the second half was very even and two late points by kanturk sealed victory for them by 0.14 to 1.09.canovee now have 12 points out of 16 in the league.

on may 27th canovee played st peters in the under 13 B county final in coachford.canovee gave their best performance of the season to run out winners by 4.08 v 2.04.the return of team captain was a big boost to the team and allthough not fully fit proved a handfull lfor the st peters defence when moved to the forward line in the second half.well done to the players and selectors for the big effort through out the year.

on may 31st canovee played their second non exam league game of the week away to castlehaven in union hall.this turned out to be a very tough competive game.castlehaven led at half time by 2.07 to 1.04.aidan moynhian scoreing the goal from a penalty.in this half canovee created numerous goal scoring chances but unluckily were unable to take them with the ball going everywhere except in the net.castlehaven had a better start to the second half but a super goal by aidan moynhian brought canovee bach in contention.from their to the finish both teams traded points and at the final whitsle castlehaven were ahead by 4.11to 2.10.

on may 20th canovee played the under 13 B county semi final in kealkil against urhan.canovee played with wind advantage in the first half and held a two point lead at half time thanks to to a goal by daniel akinrinbola.a goal by eoin cullen in the second half kept canovee ahead.a great save by cathal moynhian sealed a one point win for canovee.final score canovee 2.06 v urhan 1.08.the final is due to be played on sunday 27th of may in coachford against st peters from rockchapel.
on may 22nd canovee played their second non exam minor league game of the season away to buttevant.on a beautiful evening for football. canovee had a good squad on duty.canovee led at half time by 3.05 to 1.02 with aidan moynhian scoring the canovee goals.buttevant pilled on the pressure in the second half and it took another goal from aidan moynhian to maintain their lead.with time running out late goals by james moynhian and centre back michael dunne sealed a great win for canovee.final score canovee 6.08 v buttevant 2.07.team

on may 16th aidan moynhian came on at half time for the cork minor footballers in their narrow defeat against tippeary in the munster minor football championship semi final in pairc ui chaoimh.

on may 17th canovee minors played their first league game at home to boherbue.boherbue play in the premier 2 grade in the minor league and canovee were under pressure from the start.at half time boherbue led by 1.07 to 0.01 with cathal o carroll scoring the canovee point.in the second half despite a cathal o carroll goal boherbue kept the scoreboard ticking over and at the final whitsle were ahead by 3.16 to 1.03.despite been outclassed canovee kept trying to the final whitsle which agaurs well for the rest of the season,

On April 26th Canovee played Eire Og in division 2 of the junior football league in Ovens. Canovee fielded a very youthfull team and Eire og led at half time by 1.05 to 0.05. Michael Quinlans goal brought Canovee into contention but Eire og ran out worthy winners by 1.12 to 1.06.

On may 5th Canovee played Aghabulloge in the first round of the intermediete football championship in Macroom in dry conditions.Canovee started slowly and were behind by 4 points to 1 point after a quarter of a hour. .Pat Dunlea scoring thje point.then Canovee got 2 goals in quick succession through Andrew Cronin and Pat Dunlea.Canovee led at half time by 2.04 to 0.05.an early Pat Dunlea point put Canovee further ahead,but from their to the finish Aghabulloge took over, they scored a goal with 10 minutes to go to narrow Canovees lead to 3 points.it took some fantastic defending to keep Canovee ahead.a long range point by Eamonn Lyons sealed victory. Canovees second adult team played their first league of the season at home to Kilmurry in division2 on April 11th. Canovee fielded a team of youth and experience and got off to a slow start.a few early points put Kilmurry ahead and they led at half time by 1.05 to 0.04. Iveleary brought Canovees fine run in the under 21 b championship to a end. Goals in the first half by Mark Verling and James Moynihan put Canovee ahead but the loss of a player to a straight red card put the team under pressure . The half time score was Canovee 2.05 to Iveleary 1.06. Iveleary pilled on the pressure in the second half but a Aidan Moynhian goal kept Canovee level. Iveleary then got a run of scores and they ran out worthy winners by 3.16 to 3.06. The players and selectors all made a great effort and with most of the team available next year hopefully the team can go one step further.

In feile under 14 B football Canovee had a great game with Inniscarra . Inniscarras physcial strength proved the decideing factor and Canovee lost by 1.11 to 3.02. This team are due to play Bride Rovers in the championship next month.

On Easter Sunday Canovee kept up their good start to the league with a good away win over Youghal. Ccanovee led at half time by 0.05 to 0.04 having played against the wind.in the second half Canovee ran out worthy winners in a hard physcial match by 0.12 to 0.08.team

The intermediete footballers bounced back from their first league loss to Carrigaline with a great league win over Mayfield. Regular defenders Andrew Cronin and Daniel O'Sullivan were the goal scorers.In this match the under 21 players showed good form and put their dissapointment of their loss to Kilmurry the day before behind them when Canovee were unable to recover from a slow start and Kilmurry ran out winners despite a late rally by 4 points.

The under age section has played 6 games in Febuary with 4 wins and 2 losses.the under 16s had a great home win over cobh with Conor Hughes and Mark Healy scoring the goals. The under 13s and 14s have been very competive with the only loss a narrow defeat away to Saint Catherines .
